After 40, lip filler is usually about restoration, not enlargement.
As the face changes, the lip border can soften, the Cupid’s bow can flatten and fine lines can appear above the lip. Lipstick may bleed more easily. The corners of the mouth can also start to turn down.
The mistake is treating a 45-year-old lip like a 25-year-old lip. More volume is not always the answer.
For mature lips, Dr Rashid uses smaller amounts in more precise areas. That may mean a little along the border, a little support at the corners, or a very fine amount around lines above the lip. The goal is to make the lip look more like it used to, not to create a different lip altogether.
Filler can also last towards the longer end in mature lips, because the area may move and break product down more slowly.

For 24 hours before lip fillers, avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil supplements unless a doctor has told you to take them.
These can increase bruising.
Come with clean lips and no lip product. Eat normally before your appointment. If you get cold sores, tell the clinic when you book, because lip filler can trigger one and antiviral medication may be recommended before treatment.
Do not book lip filler in the week before a wedding, holiday or big event. Give your lips two weeks to settle.
A lip filler appointment takes around 30 minutes, including time for numbing cream to work.
First, Dr Rashid assesses your lips at rest and in movement. He looks at the proportions of your whole face, not just the lips, then talks through where filler may help and where it will not.
Numbing cream is then applied for around 20 minutes. The injections themselves only take a few minutes. Most patients describe the feeling as a brief pinch.
You will see the shape straight away, but the lips will be swollen at first. The settled result is usually visible at around two weeks.
Lip fillers typically last between six and twelve months, and often towards the longer end after 40.
Lips move constantly, so filler usually breaks down faster here than in areas like the cheeks or chin. How long your result lasts depends on the product used, the amount placed and your own metabolism.
Patients who have regular small top-ups may find the interval between treatments becomes longer over time.
Swelling and bruising after lip fillers are normal. Swelling usually peaks in the first 24 hours and settles over two to three days. Bruising can take up to a week to fade.
Your lips will look bigger than the final result for the first 48 hours. They may feel firm or slightly uneven. This is usually swelling, not the finished result.
Small lumps can sometimes be felt in the first fortnight and often soften as the filler settles. A purple bruise, especially on the lower lip, is also common. Concealer can usually be used from the next day.
Pain that gets worse, skin that turns white, dusky or mottled, or blistering are not normal. These can be signs that filler has entered a blood vessel. It is rare, but it needs urgent treatment.

For the first 24 hours after lip fillers, do not drink alcohol, exercise hard, apply heat, wear lip products or press on your lips.
That means no hot baths, saunas, sunbeds or strenuous workouts. Avoid lipstick and balm. Do not have dental work on the same day. Do not massage your lips unless Dr Rashid has told you to.
Keep the area clean. Sleep with your head slightly raised if swelling bothers you. Drink plenty of water. A cool compress for a few minutes at a time can help.
You will leave with written aftercare, and you can contact the clinic directly if anything concerns you.
Filler adds shape and volume. Regenerative treatments support skin quality and hydration without adding volume.
If your concern is dry, lined or crepey lips rather than lost volume, a skin booster or polynucleotide treatment may be more suitable than filler. Sometimes the two are used together as part of a wider plan.
