What is Ellansé?
Ellansé is an injectable collagen stimulator designed to restore volume and encourage the skin to produce its own collagen.
It contains tiny microspheres of polycaprolactone (PCL), a material that has been used in medicine for many years. These are suspended in a gel which provides some immediate volume following treatment.
Over the following weeks, the gel is gradually absorbed while the PCL microspheres stimulate collagen production. This means Ellansé can provide both an initial filling effect and longer-term improvements as new collagen develops.
Ellansé is commonly used to treat:
- Cheeks
- Jawline and chin
- Nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the mouth)
- Hands
How much does Ellansé cost?
We no longer offer Ellansé at Skinfinity, so we don't have a current treatment price.
The cost of Ellansé at other UK clinics will depend on the product used, how much is needed and the experience of the practitioner. A face-to-face consultation is the best way to establish an accurate price.
For patients looking for a collagen biostimulator in Leeds, we now offer Julaine.
Julaine treatment prices at Skinfinity:
- Single treatment: £1,000
- Course of two treatments: £1,750
I'll discuss the treatment options with you during your consultation and explain the costs before we proceed.
Why we now use Julaine
At Skinfinity, we now offer Julaine as an alternative collagen biostimulator.
Julaine is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and is manufactured by Nordberg Medical in Sweden.
Like Ellansé, Julaine works by encouraging your skin to produce new collagen. Rather than simply adding volume, the aim is to gradually improve the skin's firmness and underlying structure.
I tend to recommend discussing Julaine with patients who are starting to notice changes in their skin's firmness or quality and want a more gradual approach to treatment.
Results develop over time as collagen production increases. The aim is a natural-looking improvement that develops gradually rather than a noticeable change immediately after treatment.
Ellansé and Julaine: the practical differences
Although both treatments stimulate collagen production, there are some important differences.
One important point I always explain to patients is that collagen biostimulators cannot be dissolved using the enzyme we use for hyaluronic acid dermal fillers.
Both products gradually break down within the body, but their effects are not immediately reversible.
This is why a thorough consultation is essential. We need to consider your facial anatomy, skin quality, previous treatments and what you would like to achieve before deciding whether a collagen biostimulator is suitable.
What Julaine treatment involves at Skinfinity
Every Julaine treatment at Skinfinity begins with a consultation.
I'll examine your skin, discuss any changes you've noticed and assess whether Julaine is the most appropriate treatment for you.
If I think you would benefit more from another approach, I'll explain why.
What happens during treatment?
The appointment takes approximately 45 minutes, including time for numbing cream.
Following treatment, you may experience:
- Mild redness or swelling
- Tenderness around the injection sites
- Small bumps where the product has been injected
These are common reactions and usually settle within a few days. I'll also explain the potential risks, aftercare and what to look out for following treatment.
When will I see results?
Julaine works gradually. As your skin produces new collagen, you may begin to notice improvements in firmness and skin quality over the following weeks and months.
Results can last up to around two years, although this varies depending on your age, skin condition and lifestyle. Maintenance treatments may be recommended.
Which areas can Julaine treat?
Common treatment areas include:
- Cheeks
- Jawline
- Temples
- Neck
- Décolletage
- Hands
We'll discuss which areas are suitable during your assessment.
Had Ellansé before?
If you've previously had Ellansé, either at Skinfinity or another clinic, it's important to tell me during your consultation.
Ideally, I'll need to know:
- When you had the treatment
- Which areas were treated
- Which product formulation was used, if known
- Whether you've experienced any problems since treatment
I'll assess the treated areas before recommending anything further.
Previous collagen-stimulating treatments need to be considered carefully, particularly when introducing another injectable product.
Sometimes my advice will be to leave the area alone and review it at a later date. There isn't always a need for further treatment.
Is Julaine right for you?
Julaine may be suitable if you're noticing early skin laxity, reduced firmness or changes in skin quality and would prefer a gradual improvement.
It's often a treatment worth considering if you want to improve how your skin looks and feels without adding significant volume.
However, it won't be the right option for everyone.
If your main concern is lost facial volume or you would like more definition in a particular area, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers may be more appropriate.
Unlike collagen biostimulators, hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if clinically necessary, although this also has risks and limitations.
My approach is always to assess what your face needs before recommending a treatment. We can then decide together which option is most likely to give you the result you're looking for.
Frequently asked questions
Do you still offer Ellansé in Leeds?
No. Skinfinity no longer offers Ellansé. For patients who want collagen stimulation, our doctors now use Julaine, a poly-L-lactic acid biostimulator.
How much does Ellansé cost?
We no longer price Ellansé because we no longer offer it. As a comparison, Julaine at Skinfinity costs £1,000 for a single treatment or £1,750 for a course of two, confirmed at consultation.
What is the difference between Ellansé and Julaine?
Ellansé is made of polycaprolactone microspheres in a gel and gives some volume on the day. Julaine is poly-L-lactic acid and adds very little on the day. Both work by prompting the skin to build its own collagen over weeks to months.
Can Julaine be dissolved?
No. Unlike hyaluronic acid filler, Julaine cannot be dissolved with an enzyme. It breaks down on its own over time, which is why a careful consultation matters before treatment.
How long does Julaine take to work?
Results build gradually over the weeks and months after treatment as new collagen forms. Depending on your skin, age and lifestyle, they can last up to around two years.
I have had Ellansé before. Can I have Julaine?
Possibly. Tell your doctor when and where you were treated and which areas. They will assess the area before recommending anything, and will tell you if it is better to wait.
Who is Julaine not suitable for?
Julaine is not suitable for anyone under 18, anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, or anyone with an active skin infection in the area to be treated. Your doctor will check your medical history at consultation.
