The Vampire Facial

You’ve probably seen the countless photos of celebrities flaunting their blood blood-splattered post treatment selfies, all taken in the name of beauty. What sounds (and looks) like a rather daunting process is actually fast becoming an extremely popular anti-ageing treatment. It’s all the rage with celebrities, such as Kim Kardashian, Anna Friel, Danny Minogue, Bar Refaeli, Kerry Katona and Rupert Everett. But what actually is the ‘Vampire Facial’?

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) therapy is a safe, risk-free way of achieving noticeable, long-lasting skin rejuvenation without the need for medication or surgery. At Skinfinity, we are proud to be able to offer this amazing treatment aimed at helping your skin look healthier and younger

What is PRP?

PRP involves taking blood from one part of your body and injecting it into the parts that you are unhappy with. This stimulates the skin to increase blood flow to the area, new collagen is formed (the springy substance that makes skin look and feel firm), and the skin undergoes rejuvenation. This is all part of the body’s natural healing process.

What is the process like and how does it work?

A small sample of your blood is taken from a vein in your arm, much like any other blood test. This blood is then spun in a centrifuge until all of the red blood cells move to the bottom, and the fluid part sits on top. This is the platelet rich plasma (PRP), this is mixed with local anaesthetic, which is then injected into the areas of skin that you are unhappy with. Depending on your age and skin type, you may require between 1-3 treatments over 3-4 months, followed by a top-up treatment once or twice a year.

What can it treat?

  • PRP therapy is effective in reducing the appearance of wrinkles, tired/sagging skin, and any areas that have lost firmness. This includes the forehead, around the eyes, cheeks, around the mouth, and neck.

  • PRP can also be used to treat certain blemishes, such as acne marks, as well as dark bags around the eyes.

Who is it suitable for?

PRP is suitable for skin of all ages! Younger skin needs fewer treatments and the aim is to prevent the onset of skin ageing/deterioration. Later in life, skin loses some of its youthful appearance, and here PRP is used to turn back the years.

How much does it cost?

PRP treatments start at £200 for one treatment. Special rates are given when booking multiple treatments, or when combining PRP with another cosmetic treatment.
